WHY DUBAI DESERVES A SECOND LOOK BEYOND THE BLING
When you think of Dubai, what's the first thing that comes to mind?
For most people, it's luxury hotels, designer shopping, rooftop restaurants, supercars, and experiences that seem way out of reach. I'll admit that's largely how I thought about Dubai, too.
That perception is exactly why I enjoyed an intimate dinner with the Dubai Tourism team, where I had the chance to meet their new Head of PR and Communications. Over great food and even better conversation, I walked away with a completely different perspective on the city.
One thing that really stood out was just how much Dubai has to offer beyond the luxury lifestyle it's famous for.
Don't get me wrong, if you're looking for world-class hotels, incredible restaurants, and all the glamour that Dubai is known for, you'll definitely find it. But that's only one side of the story.

What I hadn't realised is how much the city has expanded its tourism offering to cater to travellers with different budgets and travel styles.
There are affordable hotels, an efficient public transport system, beautiful public beaches, cultural attractions, and neighbourhoods where you can enjoy amazing food without spending a fortune.
It made me realise that Dubai's reputation has almost worked against it. Because we hear so much about the extravagant side of the city, it's easy to assume that's all there is.
For me, travel has always been about discovering the places that surprise you the most. And after hearing more about what Dubai has to offer, it's clear there's a side to the city that many of us simply don't know about.
The evening wasn't just about learning more about the destination. It was also lovely meeting the new communications lead and hearing about the team's vision for telling a broader, more balanced story about Dubai - one that highlights not only its iconic attractions, but also the experiences that are accessible to more travellers.
Will Dubai always be a destination where you can indulge in luxury? Of course.
But it's also becoming a place where you don't have to spend a fortune to have an incredible trip. And that's probably the biggest takeaway I left with.
Sometimes all it takes is one conversation to change the way you see a place. For me, that conversation happened over dinner, and it's definitely made me think about Dubai a little differently.
